How to submit articles to Literacies

Sending a proposal is more efficient than sending in a pre-written article that we may turn down or ask you to rewrite. We welcome unsolicited articles but please contact us before sending an article.

If you have an idea for an article or a visual presentation, please send your proposal to our info email address .

Your proposal should communicate a clear article focus, as well as demonstrate your familiarity with the magazine and our style. Please describe what you are proposing, who/what the article is about and why readers would want to read the article.

An editor will work with you to shape your article for publication in Literacies once your proposal is received and accepted.

the format

Please send submissions as Text Only files, with a minimum of formatting. We prefer that you not use footnotes.

Please attach a title page to your contribution with the following:

  • your name and contact information
  • the name of the article
  • a 50-word biography

Your name should only appear on the title page.

If we decide to publish your article, we will ask you to write a summary of 100-250 words.

editorial procedures

The editors of Literacies reserve the right to make editorial changes in any manuscript accepted for publication for the sake of style or clarity. Edited articles will be sent to authors for approval.

publication

Literacies cannot guarantee publication dates and reserves the right not to publish any article.

rights

Once your piece is accepted for publication, you grant Literacies the right to post your article on our web site. You will keep copyright of your work and may publish the paper anywhere else, as long as you acknowledge Literacies as the original publisher.

Literacies is copyright free and we encourage readers to make use of it. We only ask that when you do so, you acknowledge the source.

If you submit photographs to accompany your piece, we require a signed release form from each person.

complimentary copies

Literacies does not pay for submissions. However, authors of published articles, commentaries, and reviews will receive 2 free copies of the issue in which their piece appears.
